Kumasi, 13th May, 2026 — History rose from the pages of the past and onto the screen at Manhyia Palace, as Parables Animation Studios, in joint collaboration with the Manhyia Palace Museum, unveiled an exclusive first look at its upcoming epic animated feature on the life and legacy of Opemsuo Osei Tutu I, the founding King of Asanteman, "Opemsuo Osei Tutu 1, Birth of an Empire".
The sample short of the film was screened during the second edition of the 'Asantehene Arts Award' ceremony, giving the project a platform before a distinguished audience that included His Majesty Otumfou Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, chiefs, government officials, diplomats, educators, and leaders from Ghana’s creative industry.
Rich in authentic Asante culture, and cinematic storytelling, the preview follows the young Osei Tutu’s extraordinary rise from exile to empire builder — the visionary who united kingdoms and laid the foundation of one of Africa’s greatest civilizations.
The palace hall filled with applause as the 4-minute film version ended, with audience members expressing excitement at the project and highly awaiting the final full film. The evening continued smoothly afterwards with the Asantehene presenting awards to the distinguished artists in a well-received ceremony.
Though still in production, the Opemsuo Osei Tutu 1 animated film has already ignited excitement for what could become one of the most important animated features ever created on African soil — a bold statement that African history belongs on the global stage.
Speaking on the screening, Mr. Ivor Agyeman-Duah, director of the Manhyia Palace Museum, said “We are excited about this film and the collaboration behind it. It’s about ensuring our rich history and culture are preserved for the next generation-and this isn’t just for children, but for all of us.”
“This is more than a movie,” Cycil Abban, the director of Parables Studio said. “This is our story — told by us, for the world.”
A full release date will be announced soon together with periodic updates on the film, including official poster and trailer release.
