On Friday 24th November 2023, Parables Animation Studios (PAS), Producers of Ghana's first-ever animated feature film and Ghana/Africa's first environmental superhero animated series, privately launched their new project dubbed, Anansekrom Toon Festival (ATF) as their tenth (10th) anniversary celebration of being producers of the renowned "Ananse Live On Stage" theatrical shows at the Silverbird cinemas every year.
After the introduction of guests and welcome address by V. T. Albert Tetteh, Project Director of Parables Animation Studios, Cycil Jones Abban, the Chief Executive Officer of PAS and ATF Director, took the stage to extensively and passionately share the history of the studio, the success stories as well as challenges in the creative/animation industry and key things that propel them to keep blazing new trails regardless
V. T. Albert Tetteh who doubles as the Festival Manager led the PAS Team to officially launch the ANANSEKROM TOON FESTIVAL after a thought provoking speech was delivered by the Special Guest, Mr. Kwaw P. Ansah, Founder of Film Africa, TV Africa and Bisa Aberwa museum.
To commence his speech, Mr. Ansah lauded PAS for the great works done so far and the amazing ones unfolding now. "Dear cartoonists and creative artists, I specially congratulate Parables Animation Studios for taking such relevant step in our children's future. Our children are indeed our future and what they learn today is what Africans shall reap tomorrow. As if the African has no story to tell. This is what today's African child in school is been taught to believe", he said.
"Our Grandmothers knowing and caring about the African child's future, would gather us under the big tree in the evenings and tell their grandchildren the stories of the intelligent Kweku Ananse and our heros and heroines who prepared us for tomorrow. Where is that Grandmother today? Has our school education convinced us to consider her a witch who dares not come close to her grandchildren and therefore should be consigned to the witches' camp? Is that why the African adult is so confused, considering every foreign values as precious and the African values as primitive and uncivilized?", He quizzed
He ended by adding that, "Our children are the blessed innocent children created by God to be guided by their parents into useful adulthood. We have messed up as adults. Creative artists, our children's future should mean a lot to us because that is our future. I do congratulate Parables Animation Studios, hoping that the animations you are going to deliver to our precious children will be the golden stories of Africa. I wish the Anansekrom Toon Festival well".
Also present at the launch were the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) Team led by Nelly Joana Spio-Abaidoo (Principal Export Development Officer), Dr. Wale Okediran (Secretary General, Pan-African Writers Association), Ivy Prosper (Social Media Manager, Beyond the Return), Mr. Anthony Darko (Founder of Potbelly Shack), Laura-Rosa Vogel (Representative, Swiss Embassy), the France Volontaire Team led by Justine Gegout (Communication and partnership relations officer) and Mr. Alex Bannerman (Veteran Animator & Director of Akroma Production Limited).
The ANANSEKROM TOON FESTIVAL (ATF) is Ghana's first-ever cartoon festival; a 2-day festival to celebrate Ananse projects/our folklore using both traditional & advanced forms of communication. The event features art exhibitions and workshops, panel discussions, live folkloric music, poetry and storytelling, animation screenings, puppetry and other engaging activities. Above all, the festival promises to be super fun for children and adults alike with something for people of all ages.
